The paper provides a brief overview on Spanish history between 711-1492, outlining the main events and tendencies, and particularly focusing on the situation of local nations and religions. Due to its special geographical position and characteristics Spain was a unique meeting point of civilizations in the centuries of the Middle Age: on one hand – being closely related to North Africa and the Middle East – it constituted a part of the Islamic world, but on the other hand it was deeply European integrating Christian and Jewish values as well. The country was inhab-ited by diverse nations, following several different religions, who in spite of the many conflicts, highly influenced one and other’s mentality, arts, religious and scientific milieu, use of language and everyday life.
